It has been called the "biggest economic opportunity of this century" by one of the chief engineers of the IT revolution. Addressing climate change through alternative energy technology is the greatest challenge confronted by our generation. It may well also provide the United States with its greatest opportunity, however, experts agree that for these opportunities to be realized, Federal Government policy and action is crucial.
Private Enterprise Tackling Climate Change
"You can bail out the economy, but you cannot bail out the environment" is a phrase that John Doerr, CEO of Kleiner Perkins Caufeild and Byers, has become particularly fond of in recent light of the government's huge financial rescue plan. Doerr, one of the premier architects of the information technology boom through financing internet titans Amazon, Google and Synamic in their infancy, believes the threat of global warming is real and present. Recently quoting Kleiner's second law 'there is a time when panic is the appropriate response', Doerr has rushed together some of the brightest minds in government and industry and formed an alternative energy investment initiative named 'Greentech'. The company aims to tackle the problem of climate change through private enterprise and innovation.
