Aztec costumes are an interesting and different option for historical fancy dress parties. For Halloween, Aztec costumes can be based upon those worn by priests and warriors; the design can then be exaggerated for added fear-factor and goriness. Here are a few options to consider.
Aztec Warrior Costumes for Halloween or Historic Fancy Dress
Perhaps the most impressive Aztec costumes are those of the Aztec Eagle and Jaguar Warriors. These men went into battle dressed in spectacular representations of each animal. There are two main elements to each Aztec costume, the body suit and the head gear or helmet.
A Jaguar Warrior costume comprises a full body suit decorated with jaguar spots. The Aztecs themselves used either real jaguar skins or, if they were wealthier members of society, suits made from feathers. Any jaguar print material can be used for creating this Aztec costume. A Jaguar Warrior’s helmet was a fearsome sight, made from the actual skull (sometimes just the jaws) of the animal. Obviously, this might me a little hard to find so you will have to improvise. You should end up with a helmet that covers your entire head, the open jaws acting as the mask’s opening. Decorate the helmet with jaguar ears and more spots.
